The municipality of the city of Krefeld (Lower Rhine) considers applying for the registration of some prominent monuments of the 20th-century-architecture in the World-Heritage-List. The administration's approach concerns the four works of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, situated in Krefeld: the "Verseidag" industrial complex (a silk factory) and the 3 mansions, built in the beginning of the 1930th for the local Industrialists. The both better known mansions - "Haus Lange" and "Haus Esters" - actually house modern art collections. In spite of the regional significance of the monuments, it looks set to become a stony way for Krefeld's municipality which now has to demonstrate a universal outstanding value of the monuments. A compromise could be to nominate the German works of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe together with his works in other countries (like the USA and the Czech Republic). |
